The other problem that I have with exercising is physically being able to do what I wish to do. I went running the few days that it was warm in February. I knew I'd be out of shape, but I didn't expect to actually be in pain when running. I could barely go 20 minutes without my ankle hurting. Also, I was limping in pain the next day. This caught me off guard; for the past three summers, I ran for 90 minutes at least twice per week. It's frustrating; I want to get back into shape, but I definitely do not want to worsen any ligament tear that I may still have. Hopefully, my next post will be about how I successfully exercised.

My Problems for Exercising
Scheduling time to exercise has definitely been one of my biggest issues here at Drexel. In high school, it was easy; every day after school starting at 3:30, I ran. It didn't matter if I had a ton of work due the next day or next to nothing; I was in the habit of spending at least one, but usually two, hours on the cross country trails or on the track. For the past few weeks, I have been unable to keep a schedule. If I have a lot of school work, I'll likely go to the library instead of the gym; I've always prioritized academics over exercise. The weather has either been cold or rainy, both of which are bad for running. In high school, I would have went for a run anyway; here, its too easy to use the weather as an excuse.

I can totally identify with what you are talking about. Back in high school I used to play basketball at for at least 2 hour in a stretch and then maybe even for an hour after a break or something. It was a regular schedule. No matter how much work I had I would ways make time. But now at college with poor time management, I am always so swamped with work I rarely find the time to go for a game or a run. This is totally putting me out of shape. And I realize that because every weekend when I go out for a pick-up game I am huffing and puffing within 20-30 mins of running!!
ReplyDeleteAlso this no exercise schedule is really taking is allowing all this stress to build up in my body.
I definitely I identify with you on this. I have been trying to get into better shape this term and it is really hard to schedule a specific time everyday. With school work and being on the varsity crew team, I don't have much extra time for sleeping let alone working out (I am a coxswain so I sit in the back and steer and direct while the rowers row). I found that it just takes making a commitment and holding yourself to standards. I like using my desk calendar and on the days I do workout I put a check for that day. When I see all the checks added up it makes me feel like I'm accomplishing something even if the mirror or scale doesn't show me the immediate results. So that would be my little tip suggestion. Hopefully it will help!
